Guided Fly Fishing On Stream Instruction Special Travel Fishing Trips |

April 12, 2008 Muskegon River, Michigan Like back east, spring is taking its sweet time arriving in west Michigan. Low water and cold river temperatures greeted me when I first arrived here. Few fish in the river, as most were down in Lake Michigan awaiting better water flows and temps. to make their run. Finally on the 1st. of April we recieved significant precipatation and water levels peaked at 6000 cfs.. Fish began arriving though very little were on gravel. Fishing the appropriate holes produced results and bright fresh steelhead began coming to the net! With the lateness of the run,(in a way its better) the fishng will hold up well into the beginning of May when I leave for Vermont. Combined with the fact that starting tomorrow I will have trips every day till the 27th, my clients should have some outstanding fishing! Fly patterns that have produced have included clown eggs, nuc roe eggs, stoneflies, and various copper and Schmidt buggers. Haven't had to use light tippets (2x), which is good because of flows, one needs stout tippets to bring these fish to the boat! I'll give you a further update in a week or two as to the progress of the run Southern Vermont Today was the opener for the trout season in Vermont. Though I am in MI, I have been looking at the weather and water levels as of late and my gut feeling is the season for us won't get going till my return on May 1st. We have had plenty of precipitation all winter and with a good snowpack it bodes well for a great year in Vermont and nearby NY. Of course mother nature and the variability of weather patterns could change that but I am very optomistic for the upcoming year. I look forward to seeing and fishing with my regular clients, and to those new bookings, I'm excited about meeting and sharing our special fishing in New England. Remember if looking to book a trip, don't hesitate as many prime times (especially weekends) are filling fast!!! Tight Lines, Peter Basta
